DESCRIPTION :
The Castle was built for the Count of Trébons, Subdelegate of the Marshals of France, between 1762 and 1767, on plans drawn up by the architect Joseph Abel Couture, known as Couture the Elder, last Intendant of the Royal Buildings of the Ancien Régime . Louis XVI thus entrusted him, in this capacity, with the restoration of the Palais de Justice on the Ile de la Cité in Paris, which "he went up to the drum of the columns. The Château de Trébons is one of the only surviving works entirely made by Joseph Abel Couture, both the exterior building, the interior fittings and decorations, and the plans for the gardens. No other example is known, nor under the reign of Louis XV, nor under that of Louis XVI, except at the Château de Trébons, with two strictly identical north and south facades with pediments. Made in one go, and with no later additions, Trébons is entirely built of cut stone with the original stereotomy, it is an exception in Normandy. This is why the entire Estate was listed as a Historic Monument by order of December 19, 2008, buildings, interior decorations, layout of the gardens and avenues, soil of the plots on which it is located. The castle has undergone a complete restoration in accordance with the rules of historical monuments, framework, roofs, lead ridges, copper gutters, interior fittings. It declines in all its components, the great taste, at its peak under Louis XV, lantern rooms, stone floors with period black flies, Versailles parquet floors, superb woodwork, fireplaces, magnificent wrought iron staircase bearing the family arms of Trébons, door of azure with 3 silver moon crescents. The set is emblematic of the savoir-vivre of a great gentleman in the Age of Enlightenment. The search for balance and harmony between interior spaces and unobstructed perspectives on the surrounding nature are expressed in a desire for simplicity and grandeur. An impressive eleven-hectare park, including five hectares of grassland, houses a stable that can accommodate up to ten horses. In the park are also a gamekeeper's pavilion, a south-facing Saint-Jean brick pavilion for the staff, an old 18th century dovecote to be restored, and an exceptional vegetable garden enclosed by high walls made of sea pebbles, without probably the most beautiful in the whole region. Maupassant spent his childhood there and the atmosphere and history of the castle inspired his first novel "Une vie". We can therefore rightly consider Trébons as not only a historical but also a literary castle. It should be noted that the ruins of the old castle are still present and that they could be converted into a very beautiful ballroom. The castle and its outbuildings are presented for sale partially furnished, curtains, bedding, some pieces of furniture, etc. Secondly, all of the furniture, remarkably made up of selected period pieces may be sold separately
